Over the years, baby shower decorations have evolved. Many people still place bunches of balloons on the tables, tape cardboard cutouts on the walls, and hang crepe paper from the ceilings and doorways. However, a lot of people are decorating with items that double as gifts. Many baby shower decorations double as useful gifts. Diaper cakes have become very popular. What looks like a three-tier cake is actually a very creative gift. Disposable diapers are removed from the package, rolled up, and secured with rubber bands. They are then placed in a circle, usually around a bottle of baby lotion, baby powder, or baby shampoo, and secured together. Some people use different sized diapers for each layer. Other people use the same size diapers but just a different amount of them for each layer. Each layer is usually wrapped with a receiving blanket to give it the look of a smoothly iced cake. The layers are placed atop one another. Ribbons hold rattles, teethers, and other small gifts into place. A stuffed animal is generally placed at the top of the cake. The decoration is beautiful, but it is also very useful. Some cakes are very simple. Others are very extraordinary. A lot of money can go into a diaper cake as well. Aside from the diapers, which are costly, people have been known to include outfits and other expensive items. I have been to several baby shower decorations, and I have seen a number of useful and creative baby shower decorations. Hosts have floated bath toys in the punch bowls. I have even seen them use a baby bath tub instead of a punch bowl. Since the decorations are generally presented to the mother to be following the shower, she has a number of items that she will need for her child in addition to her gifts.
